Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance directed by Alejandro G Inarritu

Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), was directed by Alejandro G Inarritu, and it stars Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Zach Galifianakis, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts. This movie was yeared 2014, and actually picked up 9 Academy Award nominations, including 4 wins for Best Achievement in Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Best Achievement in Directing, and last but not least, Best Picture of the Year. This movie takes place in New York City, where Riggan portrayed by Michael Keaton is taking a different role than he usually does back in the days where he was known for a comic book hero in a Blockbuster movie titled Birdman. Riggan is very famous for the Birdman role that he is renowned as Birdman rather than himself Riggan Thompson. That thought of having more fame from a comic book hero and people not noticing him as an actor seem to haunt Riggan, that he actually still hears the voices from Birdman as his conscience. Meanwhile, he starts establishing a broadway show with Jake which is Zach Galifianakis, adaptation of Raymond Carvers life to develop himself as a great writer, director, and actor. In the meantime, he deals with family problems dealing with his daughter played as Emma Stone, who supports his fathers decision, but is concerned about their odd relationship together. The process of the play starts to become very difficult for Riggan because he deals with Mike who is played by Edward Norton, who tries to be in control of the play and goes his own ways. The whole play then becomes a bigger hazard due to Riggans family problems, his mind from the voice of Birdman, Jake developing plans that don’t work at times, Mikes relationship with Lesley who's played by Naomi Watts, and critics.

In this film, we see the general perception of an audience. For instance, the audience gets to see the struggles of Riggan Thompson and actions between his fame from Birdman. Which is very similar in the real world, where Michael Keaton had more fame from his portrayal of Batman or Beetlejuice. Rather than his other work. If you see the film, you can see the similarities of the film and real world in general. We see that its uncommon that people have interest in films with creativity, but have more excitement when it comes to blockbuster movies. In the film, Riggan tries to prevent that by presenting the play and show that he is more than an actor who performed in a blockbuster movie. Also, the humor in the film really reflects from the real world that the audience can relate and enjoy.

In my opinion, this movie to me is the best movie I’ve seen. This film is creative in so many levels. The directing is so magnificent which is directed by the very own Alejandro G Inarritu. The directing makes you reflect about the real word and seems like it's a movie about everything. I have never seen this kind of movie genre where its about relationships, family, movie critics, and magical realism, all taken in one shot. Alejandro s way of directing in this film showed a way a movie is conducted. Speaking of one shot takes, the cinematography is beautiful which was made by Emmanuel Lubezski. The film makes it seem like the whole thing is taken in one shot. Which explains why the cinematography is so unique touch the characters emotions all in one take. Next, the screenplay written by Alejandro, Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bo. The screenplay really touches the audience's in so many ways. You’ll be laughing, crying, and even angry. Such great humor, and very iconic quotes that reflect to the real world. You get to know about the characters from their dialogues. Also, the soundtrack is amazing, which is just drum beats presented by Antonio Sanchez. The soundtrack really blends in a lot of scenes, where Riggan is walking through Times Square in his underpants, intense scenes, and even fight scenes. Last but not least, the cast. Everyone did amazing. In my opinion, Michael Keaton did the best. Micheal Keaton really performs the best in his career. Which is a coincidence because Riggan wants to be known for a great actor rather than his portrayal as Birdman. In this case, Michael Keaton wins my attention for this role he played that I forgot he played a role as Batman or Beetlejuice. This film is so unique in many levels, and I recommend to watch this movie and take a journey to magical realism.
